It’s been a full on past few months, with filming duties and a 50 day edit for Channel 5, ATP tennis work, and also overseeing the highlights of FIM Speedway action for IMG.
The FIM Speedway Grand Prix season drew to a close in mid-October, having completed 11 races across Europe and a dramatic finale in Torun that saw Artem Laguta crowned as the new world champ.
All the episodes were broadcast on BT Sport in the UK and global broadcasters. Everyone was treated to plenty of drama throughout the season, and the race for the title went right down to the wire, culminating in emotional scenes as Laguta went into the crowd, Pat Cash style, to celebrate his win with his family and friends.
I also produced the Speedway of Nations series, again available on BT Sports. All 4 episodes were crammed full of high octane drama, and the Grand Final in Manchester was nothing short of epic. A shoot-out for the gold between Poland and ‘The Lions’ of Great Britain, saw the host nation clinch gold in front of an ecstatic crowd.
Having been starved of speedway for the past 2 years (with Cardiff twice being removed from the Grand Prix calendar due to covid) the UK fans were at last unleashed and played their part in what proved to be a Final to remember.
It was the first time a GB team had won any sort of team World Final since 1989, and it was an honour to tell the story of the historic win.
Such a fitting end to the Speedway season, and one that has seen the continuing battle against the odds and covid regulations.
Definitely a year to remember.
If you have BT Sport in the UK you can catch the action here:
In other news we are deep into the edit of the 5 episode WSM arena tour - working for the Giants Live team, with the series on track and ready for their traditional Christmas transmission on Channel 5.
I've directed shoots at The Royal Albert Hall, Manchester, Leeds, and one more to finish the series coming up in Sheffield towards the end of October.
