Against the odds

Updated: Dec 9, 2020

Against the odds, while battling the COVID-19 storm head on, the FIM Speedway World Championship concluded in dramatic style in Torun with Polish rider Bartosz Zmarzlik crowned as the 2020 champion.

It was an emotional night which saw the rider head into the crowd, Pat Cash style, to embrace his family and friends who were in floods of tears.

I had the privilege of producing nine hours of content throughout the season. The drama off the track just to get the championship across the line from a logistical standpoint, was as engaging as the racing itself.

The riders and their crews had to stay within their ‘bubbles’ throughout the series, which for most meant months away from family and friends - such was the determination from everyone to show that this sport can prevail against overwhelming challenges.

In total, eight rounds of action were broadcast globally from IMG, as well as The Speedway of Nations which saw Russia claim the title.

Already looking forward to next season!
