My first ATP tennis event of the year was for the broadcast of the ATP 1000 Madrid Masters, and what a week to remember. Carlos Alcaraz dominated the event with some of the most sublime clay court tennis I’ve personally ever seen. Not only did he overcome Nadal (to whom he lost in straight sets at the same event just 1 year ago), but then saw off Djokovic too, and then Zverev in the final. Totally fearless.
It really felt like a transition of power was unfolding as he strode forward in the draw and lifted the trophy (his 2nd Masters 1000 of the season). I can’t wait to see how the year unfolds and track his progress.

Elsewhere, episodes 1 and 2 of Giants Live are deep into their edits. 95% done on each now with just a few elements to film before we have pictures locked on those.
Episode 2 (Europe's Strongest Man) has possibly the most emotionally charged story-lines ever filmed for the Giants team - where Ukrainian Oleksii Novikov, who has been training with the special forces to defend his homeland, actually won the title in Leeds. He had limited strongman training in the lead up to the competition, as his gym time was hampered by air raid sirens and military exercises. Oleksii was very open about the situation in his pre-event interview and I can say hand on heart it was an honour to be in his company and listen to his unbelievable story.
The capacity 12,000 strong crowd at Leeds First Direct Arena really got behind the under dog here and the noise made when he won was just unreal.
Episode 3 is being filmed at The Royal Albert Hall in July which, if last year is anything to go by, is an event not to be missed.
Elsewhere, I’m also pushing for a long form documentary idea provisionally titled The Island that has been in development for most of this year. Fingers crossed we get a taker for that. Lots of other ideas in the mix too.
